I’m sad to report that we lost Brenda Fisher on Monday. Her service is on Saturday, October 3rd at the Glendive Zion Church at 11:00. This big-hearted lady will really be missed.

Comment by Amber Hrubes October 1, 2009 @ 1:33 pmNews from the Snaffle Bit Futurity: Deb Brown’s 3 yr old stud, Smooth Talkin Cat, is sitting 4th in the intermediate division (200+ horses)after the prelims and obviously qualified for the finals. He missed qualifying for the open division finals by about 5 horses. Intermediate and Open are determined by earnings won by the rider. Justin Lawrence is riding Talkin. In the prelims, his reining run was mediocre but he came back to score a 219 on the fence work — placing him 2nd in the intermediate and tied for 4-5th in the Open.
The National Reined Cow Horse Association’s premiere triathlon event – the Snaffle Bit Futurity – consists of reining, cutting and fence work (chasing cow down fence then turning them at certain places in specified directions).
This is a pretty big deal so very, very exciting for her. This is in Reno. She will be there another week probably. She has been checking email if you want to send her a note: nphorses@sdplains.com.

Comment by Lisa Baxter July 22, 2009 @ 7:30 pmI truly admire the show managers, Jody Sept and the office workers for implementing the computerized system. This is no small change so understandably it can cause concerns. My questions have been answered very courtesy and patiently. Thank you.
Comment by Sharlet Teigen July 19, 2009 @ 9:55 pmGreat show in Wibaux.. One more to go. I like the fact that they are more spread out this year:) and so does my horse.

It was nice seeing Heidi again…prayers go out for Krista and Marge for quick healing and to anyone else we may have missed. Thank you again for a great time and good company.

Comment by Judy July 2, 2009 @ 2:03 pmI wanted to thank everyone in Miles City who helped make the show such a nice one. The attendance was amazing! There were alot of very nice horses and wondeful smiles…I appreciate all the hard work the volunteers/crew/office staff/gate people/announcers/judges and all put in.

Comment by The Nistlers June 22, 2009 @ 3:41 pmEverybody please say prayers for Marge Griebel, she is just coming out of the hospital today with conjestive heart failure.
Marge, I just want to say, I hope you are feeling better soon. You are such an asset to this horse show circuit and thank you so much for all the hard work you do and making sure everything is running smoothly!
Comment by Jody Sept June 19, 2009 @ 5:10 pmMarge hope you are ok, and they get you stable and on your feet. Prayers have been going out to you and your family since we found out.
Comment by Lisa Baxter June 22, 2009 @ 9:22 pmHey there annaMarie, I stayed home ( not because I wanted to)for the Broadus show so you will just have to suffer because I will be there for the Miles City show as well:).. I am soo glad to have my horse feeling good and am gald I am able to ride him again… Hope everyone that had bad luck at Baker are feeling well, and you all know who you are.. Lets hope the next few are a little safer going.. good luck to all see you in 2 weeks..
Comment by Deb Ryan June 17, 2009 @ 9:02 pmFirst of all I would like to thank Julie, JT and her (very small) crew for the great job at the Broadus show, even with the rain, the computer glitches and being short of helpers, it was a great show. Although it wasn’t good for the show, I also like to thank all of you Jack Benny people for not showing up.
On to the Baker show. What can I say, Marge you always put on a great show and are super organized, I’m so sorry you couldn’t have enjoyed it more. It would have been even a better week-end if Deb Ryan had stayed home.:)
Now on a more serious note, something really needs to be done about the judging inconsistancy. I’m just going to give one example: The reining, I don’t rein and it didn’t affect Teri any, so I feel this is justified. In Broadus, 2 reiners were disqualified for broken pattern, ie, no points. In Baker 2 broken patterns placed. I was told it was at the judges discrepency, but you can’t have it one way at one show and another way at the next.
Comment by Anna Marie Nistler June 16, 2009 @ 8:15 pmI agree, but the problem is so many “judges” dont know every discipline at the open shows. They are normally not carded judges and have no formal training. You will see great discrepencys with: halter placings, pattern classes including reining, and I see alot of those that dont understand their diagonals in English. Realistically I dont see how we can make judging open shows more consistent and less subjective. I have been part of many, many circuits and many breed shows…the open show judging is all over the map.
Comment by Lisa Baxter June 18, 2009 @ 9:38 pmI was coming back from Billings on Sunday and I passed an immpressive six horse trailer from Illinois being pulled by a new truck. I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful air brush design on the door of the pickup along with the name. It said “Expensive Hobby Ranch”. I think we can all identify with that!! Congratulations to Marge on the birth of her new granddaughter!!
Comment by Brenda Fisher May 19, 2009 @ 1:15 pmAnyone from Glendive going to one of day of the Broadus or Baker show? I am looking to catch a ride. I want to bring my horse and just go for one of the days instead the whole weekend.
Comment by Cara Voss May 9, 2009 @ 1:58 pmHi everyone,
Comment by Valerie Dekker May 1, 2009 @ 7:53 pmI just wanted to let people know if you needed small squares for showing this year I know of someone who has them.

He wants 135 a ton and the bales are about 60 pounds each.
They are alfalfa/grass mix, heavy on the alfalfa.
He said he has a guy that is feeding it to his kids 4-H steers. It has not been rained on and is shedded.
Hi everybody,
Comment by Marge Griebel April 17, 2009 @ 10:47 pmI finally got internet at home (since I am retired now)so I can get on the website. It looks great Jody!
I have a new granddaughter. She is beautiful! She was born April 3, weighed 8 lbs 8 oz and measured 20!/2 inches. She has dark hair and olive skin. Her brother is so proud. He is
3 1/2 years old and he loves her!!! Her name is Kenadee Ann Simac.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone. I sure hope my show dates work for everyone. I traded mine with Donna O’Connor because she traded with Broadus and then couldn’t get the arena the 2nd week-end in June. My dates are now June 13th and 14th.
Deb and Sterling Brown I sure hope that you are going to be able to make at least some of the shows. We miss you!!!
Marge Griebel
For the reiners in the group, I wanted to give you the heads up on an exciting clinic coming up. On May 15-16 Shawn Flarida, NRHA’s first 3 million dollar rider and 3 time NRHA futurity winner, will be giving a clinic at Anderson Training Stables in Wilsall, MT (just north of Livingston). The riding spots are all filled and have been for some time but it is open to anyone who wishes to audit the classes. The cost to audit is $90.00 for the weekend or $50.00 per day. I’m hoping to attend but as of yet I don’t have solid plans.

Comment by Erin LeResche March 12, 2009 @ 2:31 amI am hoping to get out to the shows this year again. I haven’t fallen off of my horse yet, and no longer have a head injury. Hehe watch out Flags here I come! There are a couple of things I need if anyone has a lead, a super dead broke kid horse for my nephew to ride for 3-4 weeks while he is here. Here is the hard one, a 3 horse trailer. I hope to see you all really soon!

Hi everyone. I am soo looking foward to making the shows this year… Although It would help if I am able to ride my poor horse.. He really isn’t so poor.. He has it made in the shade..I am also glad the dates are chosen. I have to put in for time off so early like last week. hopefully I can get the days off. The Glendive crew might have some yearlings to show this year.. Hope to see ya all soon.
Comment by Deb Ryan February 14, 2009 @ 2:26 amHi Everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that we are implementing a new software program for our circuit. Hopefully this program will make the bookkeeping end a little easier for the show managers and helpers. It also would be very helpful if everyone would send in their entry forms early, as it is going to be a challenge to get everything in the computer for the first show in Wibaux.
Also new changes are being made to the website, mostly by accident, lol. I have now taken over Julie’s duty of updating the website, eek! I have pictures from the last show season that I am going to post, as soon as I can figure it out. I would also appreciate any suggestions that you might have or would like to see done with the website. I will try my best to implement although, I definetely know it will not be as nice as what Julie has done.
Looking forward to seeing everybody this year
Comment by Jody February 9, 2009 @ 8:51 pmHey everyone its Layton!
Comment by Layton Hrubes February 3, 2009 @ 2:16 amI was very happy to see the new dates posted! I was wondering if they are all final. I might have some conflict so just checking to make sure. Are the speed events going to be in the mourning also? I hope to see everyone soon and cant wait to start showing again. Happy Trails!
I’m excited to have the dates decided on for 2009. We are really looking forward to making most of the shows this year-as long as fuel stays down a little bit. This board has been really quiet for the last few months. Where is everybody?
Comment by Teri Nistler February 2, 2009 @ 2:41 amOur “local” miniature equine club was wondering how many people show on the circuit own miniature horses? Do you wish there were more mini “friendly” classes on the circuit? Would you be interested in participating in a fun type show for miniature equine if our club was to hold one? We are planning to hold our 2nd annual fun type show in Sheridan, WY again this year as well as add another show this year. Any answers would be appreciated and you can send them to me at pioneerminiatureequineclub@hotmail.com.
Comment by Wende Gianino February 1, 2009 @ 8:31 pmLooking forward to seeing everyone Nov. 9 in Wibaux for the awards ceremony.
More on Deb Brown’s French Cash Yawl: at the Badlands Circuit PRCA finals a couple weeks ago he won the first go, 3rd in the 2nd go, 8th in the 3rd go and went in leading the average but tipped a barrel. Not bad for such a young horse. Deb had some semen pulled before they gelded him and think there is some left. But hopefully not a whole bunch since we have a 2 yr old gelding with tons of speed that we’re hoping only continues to increase in value. Sharlet jo_sr-teigen@hotmail.com
Comment by Sharlet Teigen October 26, 2008 @ 12:56 am2 HORSE SUNDOWNER – The brown 2 horse straight load trailer I used at the shows this summer is for sale. We came across a larger one so this is now “surplus”! Its steel, nice dressing room, tack rooms under both managers. Torsion suspension, 6 ft wide, painted about a year ago. Floor is in great shape, has mats. No rust that I can see, tires in good shape. John & Sharlet Teigen 406.972.4579.
Comment by Sharlet Teigen September 13, 2008 @ 1:58 pmFrench Cash Yawl, the gelding Deb Ryan is talking about, is really something! He was the yearling versatility winner in EMHSC 5 years ago. Deb & Larry had semen pulled so there is a limited amount available. We have a 2 yr old son of Cash’s – he’s going to be a barn burner for speed! Deb and Larry’s horses also made a very good showing at the SD Reined Cow Horse event a couple weeks ago – 2 going on to Reno! Info at http://www.northernplainshorses.com.
Comment by Sharlet Teigen September 13, 2008 @ 1:54 pmThanks Lisa, I Just love to see pics and hope to see everyone having a good time..Hope to see ya at the awards banquest… Does anyone know where yet??? I am ready for horse show talk… Jsut a note for all. Deb Browns Now gelding french cash yaul. placed first in the 5 state breeders barrel futurity and ended up second in the average after 2 gos!!!!! Go Deb congrats… so Do I get to ride the king someday.. Only kidding:).. congrats though.. I bet you are on cloud nine…. Now I know I can’t buy him:)….
Comment by Deb Ryan September 8, 2008 @ 5:14 amDeb R, I took some pictures at the shows sent a few in to Julie to post here so I bet you will see them soon. You can email me too if you want me to send some to you personally. I dont know who I got, took mostly pictures of the kids and the buggys/wagons.
Comment by Lisa Baxter August 20, 2008 @ 9:14 pmWow, where did summer go? School starts tomorrow!
We’re looking forward to reconnecting with the bunch of you at the awards banquet. Has a time and place been established yet?
Amber, Layton and Allen Hrubes
Comment by Amber Hrubes August 19, 2008 @ 3:37 pmOh come on you guys I know someone took some pics at the shows this year.. At least if I couldn’t make it I sould be able to look at the pics of all the fun everyone had without me..
Comment by Deb Ryan July 28, 2008 @ 4:58 amDeb
Hi guys,
I just thought I would right a quick note to let everyone that was wondering what the status of Lucky is. We took her to Sheridan WY last Friday to Dr. Vlahos. He did serveral tests and took xrays. When we unloaded her his first thought was that her knee was broken. The xrays did not show a break, but they also don’t show the tendons and such. He is treating her with Adiquan and is having some corrective shoeing done. He is hoping that this will solve our problem, but is expecting that it will not. We should know in a few weeks what the outcome will be.
In the mean time I have started looking for the “perfect” stud to fit Lucky. If anyone has any good ideas, just let us know.
Needless to say, Lucas is quite upset at the thought of loosing his Lucky, but we will keep our fingers crossed for the best outcome.
Val
Comment by Val Dekker July 22, 2008 @ 8:38 pmHi all,

That is what true sportsmans ship is all about. I would also like to say a Big thanks to Jackie Sprankle who Lent me her bridle in Glendive.. You guys are the best.. I am looking into getting Cree a western pleasure bridle so that will not be a problem again.. Of course unless I forget it:). Have a great rest of the season.
Comment by Deb Ryan July 16, 2008 @ 3:19 amDeb
yea i wish we could have made it to at least some of the shows. but u know i was in sdhsra then just couldn’t be there for some of the shows hopefully next year.
Comment by Sterling July 15, 2008 @ 1:42 amLast weekend in Baker was a great show, as usual. Marge and all her workers did a wonderful job! I’m sorry the shows are over for the year. Deb and Sterling, we missed you guys. Hope to see you (and everyone) at the shows next year. Again, thanks Marge and all the show managers for an awesome show season. Even the weather cooperated this year!
Comment by Jacque LeDoux July 14, 2008 @ 3:36 amHi all again a wonderful time in Miles City, thanks to Sandy, Laura, Julie, Ally and the rest of the area gang that put on the show..the unsung heros
Thanks to Kevin and Jody for the BBQ burgers that hamburg was YUMMY! Also thanks to the entertainment crew (ya all know who you are
… BINGO! Heidi you gave the best performance in free style I have seen in a long time…except maybe on RFD TV he, he…
Wonderful weather and great people what more could we ask for…see you in Baker.
Comment by Lisa & Erica July 1, 2008 @ 8:52 pmI would like to say a big thanks to sandy and the rest of the great help she had.. you all were outstanding..
If you were unable to make it you missed quite the freestyle reining custome!!!!! Teri can tell you all about it.. Or better yet we have short camara video..
It was fun having Marie there to give me sooo much grief, like I am one of her own… Tina stopped by later on saturday and we had a great meal at the boardwalk.. We also ate at that new rib abd chop place.. I thought It was really good…
Of course my horse had to be a stinker because both his old owners were there. They probably think he still has never changed his ways.. SO I am sure they think I am telling them tall tales when I go on and on about how great he behaved and performed at some of the shows thay have missed… That Cree just wants to make a liar out of me…
:) .. Hope to see everyone is Baker… Here we come Marge…
Comment by Deb Ryan July 1, 2008 @ 2:42 pmDeb

Comment by Jacque LeDoux July 1, 2008 @ 12:00 amJacque
Congratulations to Sandy Lee and all her helpers at the Miles City shows. They had two successful very fun-filled days of showing. Beautiful weather and lots of people. I had a great time. My dream came true – my daughter, Angie, and grandson, Jacob came and he was in the lead-line class!! Thanks so much to Judy Askin for setting him up with a pony and saddle. He had so much fun! Having Angie and Jacob there made it so special for me.
Comment by Marge Griebel June 30, 2008 @ 7:07 pmHope to see all of you in Baker July 12th and 13th.

Comment by Deb Ryan June 23, 2008 @ 5:10 amA belated note of appreciation for everyone behind the scenes at the Wibaux show. Maybe next year we can use the arena. Donna, what is your secret for all the energy and keeping cool when everyone around you is throwing questions a mile a minute?
This was the first show for my granddaughter Rebecca Russell and she made some wonderful friends plus gained some valuable confidence and experience.
See everyone in Miles City … this time I think we can get there without John having to “halter break” the pickup and trailer behind the 4WD tractor for the first 12 miles of county road.
Comment by Sharlet Teigen June 22, 2008 @ 2:35 pmI am looking for an experienced/seasoned English horse for flat classes and hunter hack. 406-356-7175
Comment by Gina Asay June 16, 2008 @ 9:25 pmWell we have made it to Glendive (great show again Brenda and her crew wonderful awards and many thanks to your hospitality)and so far our warmest show, Broadus great as usual too, Julie (and crew) you are talented to show and run a show at the same time (reminds me of my friend Maria at the Bozeman APHA shows) and finally just back from Wibaux, Donna and crew amazing job you do with the added adversity of a muddy fairgrounds. Somedays we just have to smile and wade through the mud..
I told my daughter, Erica, she would love this circuit and the wonderful people in it and she DOES! I had a great time visiting withe everyone again. Thanks to all and hope to see you in Miles City.
Comment by Lisa & Erica June 16, 2008 @ 8:51 pmWibaux had two good shows. It was muddy all right but they are fortunate to have the grass and the practice area that is on higher ground. Everything went on both days from halter classes to speed events. Wibaux is always a fun week-end and this year after the show those who didn’t go out to supper on Saturday night had a hot dog, polish sausage, and marshmallow roast compliments of the Raglands and Sandy Lee. What a neat idea! The Raglands brought the portable pit for the fire and the food was furnished by both families. Them there was time around the campfire to visit. Very relaxing. This is just an update for those who didn’t get to go to Wibaux. Thank you to Don and Donna and Jim and Sandra their great crew for two very nice shows.
Marge Griebel
Comment by Marge Griebel June 16, 2008 @ 7:06 pmIf you missed the Broadus show you missed a good time. They had great help, everything went very smoothly, and we had a lot of fun. Was nice to have the indoor arena when it was pouring down rain. It is so good to see everything so green and pretty and it didn’t slow down the show a bit. The professional photographer was an added plus. They Thanks to Julie, JT, and helpers – we loved it.
Comment by Marge Griebel June 10, 2008 @ 5:57 amMarge Griebel
Great Broadus show!
Comment by Ally June 9, 2008 @ 11:11 pmI had loved seeing everyone again. And, what a joy Jody and Kevin are.
Thanks Julie and JT and the show crew.
Ally
To Brenda and Ann:
Thank you for a very nice show. It was a lot of fun. You had a lot of very good helpers and it ran very smoothly. The first show is always a little more work because people don’t have their numbers yet and some haven’t joined yet. The weather was great and things run very smoothly. There were some awesome prizes. Thanks again. We appreciate you.
Also thanks to all of you who sent their memberships to me early. That really helps out the first show.
Comment by Marge Griebel June 3, 2008 @ 8:02 pmMarge Griebel
Hi all, Just a note to say that those that we not able to attend misses a very well run show… All the workers were great and you all pulled it off like a smooth rehearshed plan. GREAT JOB Ladies.. Thank You for a job well done…. great ground, great prizes.. ect….
Comment by Deb Ryan June 3, 2008 @ 1:27 amI just want to let Marge and the rest of the Show managers that I’m sorry if we hurt anyone’s feelings, our post was never meant to do that. We enjoyed the show circuit and all the friends we made and we never intended to slam the circuit. We heard that there were just a couple of people who opposed the speed events being held in the morning and it’s sad that everyone followed their lead. We were hoping to make the Baker show, but with gas prices so high and the distance we have to travel, it doesn’t seem likely. We miss all of our friends and hope you have a good show year.
Comment by Anna Marie Nistler May 28, 2008 @ 3:31 amPlease note that the correct class list was posted to the website today. An incorrect list was sent out in the original packet. The correct list should have classes listed 1-64 and includes a driving class. It can be downloaded on the website.
Comment by Julie May 23, 2008 @ 1:51 amCongratulations to all the “mothers” on their new babies! Spring is definatly the time for new life.
Comment by Brenda Fisher May 19, 2008 @ 1:20 pmI just want to invite everyone to Glendive for the horse show on June 1. We have over

ALSO, don’t forget that we will have RADA knifes for sale and also a TACK SALE if anyone wants to bring any new or used tack or clothes. (please have them clearly marked with name and price) I will be bringing several items from my store at DEEP DISCOUNTS as I am going to be closing out…
Again, hope to see you in Glendive on June 1st at the indoor arena!!!!
Oh my goodness Deb, No electricity for 2 weeks! Hang in there. We got about 3 inches and most of it was in the form of rain. Sunshine will be wonderful. See you at the Glendive show
Comment by Jacque LeDoux May 15, 2008 @ 1:19 amI believe Julie Korkow is looking into the AQHA/Open show requirements.
The winter storm sure brought a lot of moisture–over 7 inches!!!!! All the dams are filled and the grass will be amazing once we get some sunshine.
We are still without electricity at the ranch–14 days…and counting! Hopefully, we will have electricity by the end of the week–but I’m not very confident. We are very thankful for the generator!

Congrats on the new babies!
Comment by Christina May 1, 2008 @ 2:20 amHi,
That sounds good about AQHA. Where do I get more details? Do we have to have an AQHA judge?
I sent in the paperwork for the Paint Horse Show Association again this year and we have been approved for it. Horse show managers may advertise this.
Deb Ryan – I’m excited that your foal arrived and both mare and foal are doing great. Our foal has really filled out and is growing fast. He was a big foal to begin with. He is really a beauty – well muscled with good legs and a pretty head. Angie has a really cute name picked out but I forgot what she told me. She is so good at picking out neat registered names (then of course they all have nick names).
Comment by Marge Griebel April 30, 2008 @ 5:55 pmMarge Griebel
It would be nice to be able to show for AQHA points, but the requirement of having to secure and AQHA judge for each show might prove to be too much of a hardship. It’s a novel idea, though.
Comment by Laura Lake April 30, 2008 @ 5:25 pmShow Managers: AQHA is making it allowable for open shows to earn AQHA points. I think it is $50.00 per show with an entry process. If EMHSC show managers will complete the process, I will pay the fees for 2008. This is a HUGE incentive for me to choose an EMHSC show over an AQHA show!
Comment by Deb Brown April 30, 2008 @ 1:38 pmHey I forgot to tell you all the color and such…
Comment by Deb Ryan April 29, 2008 @ 6:07 amIt is a paint tobiano colt. Large in stature. could be bay or balck and white. He is probably homozygous… He is mostly race bred and that is a somewhat rare trait with this type of bloodlines… so he will probably be showing in the stallion class. He is 75-85% white… Anybody want to help clean him to be show ready ???? should only take several hours…….
Hi all My colt finally arrived too. It come into this world on sat the 26th of april when of course I was not home.. I was in Bowman at a big barrel race.. I knew it would happen like that. My husband was home though. Both colt and mama are doing fine. He is a very large baby. His back comes up to the bottom of my chest you know what I mean.. I cannot get my arms around him becasue his body is so long.. I would love to post a pic… Julie how would I be able to do that ??? can we have a blog for new born baby horse pics ??? I think it would be fun.. There are lots of us expecting.. Ann, Jacque, myself, and many many others.. such as marge… Thanks Deb
Comment by Deb Ryan April 29, 2008 @ 6:02 amHi,
Comment by Marge Griebel April 24, 2008 @ 1:44 amWell our new foal is here and he is beautiful! He was 18 days overdue, but he is big and healthy. He is a sorrel with 2 stocking hind legs and a bald face. Such a relief when he was born and both mare and foal are okay. See you at Glendive show.
Marge Griebel
I am still waiting for a colt to be born, and am starting to think i need to have my mare jump on a trampoline…or something.. She is as big as a house and past her due date. Well not by much but you know how it is when your waiting.
Comment by Deb Ryan April 23, 2008 @ 2:26 amWell I won’t be able to make it to some of the June shows, but I will be at the first one. So I will see ya all there.. Deb
I can’t wait to shart showing in my first show season! Im so excited! Since I dislocated my knee in March, my working with my new horse, Mary has really slowed down, but luckily I did accomplish something. Leanne showed me how to lunge Mary to work her and now we are almost pros. I have been working hard on my exercises and my knee was strong enough i was able to ride on Friday. I am so happy. Everything went smoother than i thought it would. I can’t wait to meet everyone. See ya in Glendive!
Comment by Layton Hrubes April 23, 2008 @ 2:19 amI am so… excited for my first horse showing season! I can’t wait! I dislocated my knee March 7th, and now i am healing up. It really slowed me down with working with my new horse, Take Me Crusin Dandy-Mary, when i hurt my knee. So since i hurt my knee and couldn’t ride, i learned how to lunge her and now we are pros. But i have just began riding again on Friday and everthing is going great now. I hope to make it to all the shows this year. I can wait to meet everyone! See ya in Glendive!
Comment by Layton Hrubes April 23, 2008 @ 2:12 amHmmmm…..wow i haven’t talked in a while. But i guess im just saying im excited for the shows i can make. so cya people.:)
Comment by Sterling April 22, 2008 @ 2:51 amHi all,
Comment by Christina April 18, 2008 @ 4:13 pmI am new here and I want to join the EMHSC because I have this great new horser I want to show…but I don’t have a way to get to the shows..is there anybody out there that has room for one well behaved mare in exchange for helpm with fuel costs? I am in Glendive. Or does anyone have a trailer for sale cheap? Thanks, Christina
Hi Deb,
I am glad to hear someone else is anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new baby (horse that is). We still have Angie’s mare here and she is overdue by a few days. I have been keeping a close eye on her, but don’t have a video cam. That is awesome. Enjoy it!
I, too, am eager for the season to begin. Although as usual I am not prepared. I did have a wonderful time when I went to the Houston Livestock Stock and Rodeo with my sister and brother-in-law who live there. It was so exciting. I got to see one day of the Paint Horse Show and the roping and reining of the AQHA horseshow and two nights of rodeo. I got to see Cody Ohl and Trevor Brezille and Jesse Bail and Billy Etbauer! Then the evening of my second day there my brother-in-law got a phone call that he father had passed away (in Baker, MT) so our plans changed and I flew out the next morning to Boise to visit my brother and sister-in-law there. When I got home a lot of family was here for the funeral. Angie and Jacob got to be here for 4 days. Guess how excited Grandma Marge was to have Jake for a few days! He is definitely a cowboy in the making.
Comment by Marge Griebel April 7, 2008 @ 7:25 pmLooking forward to seeing all of you.
Marge Griebel
Oh yeah are the equitation patterns the same as last year or are they just not posted yet?
Comment by Kathy LeResche April 7, 2008 @ 4:04 pmyeah i had a brain fart and forgot about babies and shows is not such a good idea, haha. If Lunch is like India she won’t foal until no one is in town…haha.
Comment by Kathy LeResche April 7, 2008 @ 4:03 pmI’m excited to play with a horse i actually enjoy riding this year to! I miss riding so much i was volunteering a few times with a horse shelter down here and even the old cowboys are more uppity.
I get more excited every day!
-Kathy
Hi all.. I for one and ready or least looking forward to the season.. I just love hanging with all of you and getting to do some good ole horse talk. You know you can only do so much of that to the husband before he rolls his eyes.. Although he is anxiously awaiting our new colt.. as I am. He went and bought me a little video cam for the stall with night vision. that is hooked up to the T.V. in the bedroom. Now I can do night checks from the comfort and warmth of my bed… Yeah how cool is that.. He got pretty into it and was awake alot during the night watching too.. Although she wans’t doing anything except standing there, then laying down then getting up again.. Go figure.. Well I hope to see you all soon… lots of luck to all..
Comment by Deb Ryan April 7, 2008 @ 3:38 amDeb
Hey there Kathy,
Comment by Deb Ryan April 7, 2008 @ 3:31 amDo you mean Lunch the horse or Lunch the food ??? haha.. It’s always so confusing.. No only kidding I am going to bring the Josie girl… Miss Attitude herself.. I am waiting for Lunch ( the horse to have her little lunch baby any time now) can’t wait… I will be excited for you to go and have some fun with your good girl jackie..
Hi everyone.
Yes, some of the comments that were left on here last week are gone. Marge Griebel and I discussed the fact that it looked as though we were airing our dirty laundry to the world and that perhaps it would be best if concerns were emailed directly to the site. Please feel free to email any comments and these will be sent to Marge (Circuit Manager). The comments to the blog also must now be approved prior to being posted whereas before they were automatic after you were approved the first time. I think last week was a tough week for lots of folks and some feelings were hurt which I am sure was not the intent. However, that sometimes happens when you are only reading words and cannot directly speak to the person on the other end. I don’t think there was any intent on anyones part to do that. But, to answer questions, comments on this blog will now be moderated. I kind of have to do that anyway or it would be full of advertisements for Viagra, etc. Ha!
Comment by Julie Korkow April 7, 2008 @ 1:20 amHi everybody,
Comment by Jacque LeDoux April 6, 2008 @ 6:49 pmHope you all had a good winter and are looking forward to riding as much as I am. I hope to make most of the shows this year but really need to start riding my new green horse!! Hey, I’m wondering what happened to some of the comments recently. I’ve been following all the interest in the speed events and suddenly the comments are gone. How did they diisappear? See everybody soon.
Jacque
I’m so excited for the season too! i’m ready to give my first season a go…So your bringing lunch deb?
Comment by Kathy LeResche April 4, 2008 @ 6:10 am-Kathy LeResche
o.k….I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A COMMENT ON THE YOUTY AGE GROUP.YOU HAVE THE 9 AND UNDER THEN YOU HAVE 10-19 YO CAN YOU IMIGANE WHAT WILL GO THROUGH A 10 YO’S MIND HAVING TO COMPETE AGAINST A FRESMAN OR SOPHMORE IN COLLEGE… THINK ABOUT HOW DISCOURAGED THESE KIDS ARE GOING TO GET AFTER SO MANY YEARS OF GETTING THERE BUTTS KICKED. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE..LETS
BREAK UP THE AGES A LITTLE BETTER AND SAY 10-16 OVER 16 CAN BE ADULT. WE HAVE THESE AGE GROUPS IN
OUR BARREL RACING CLUB BECAUSE IT FITS A SMALLER SHOW BASE TO GET THE PEOPLE TO COME ON OUT AND HAVE SOME FUN WITH THEIR KIDS..
I MEAN LETS LOOK AT THE GOEGRAPHICS OF THE AREAS WE LIVE IN. WE ARE NOT AN AQHA CLUB,WE SHOULD FOLLOW RULES ABOUT TACK AND HORSE TREATMENT, BUT ALOT OF THE OTHER ISSUES SUCH AS AGE RANGES. we AS A CLUB DO NOT HAVE THE VAST NUMBERS IN MEMBERSHIP THAT THE BIGGER ORGINATIONS HAVE AND WE AS A SHOW ORGINAZTION NEED TO TAKE THESE THINGS INTO CONSIDERATION. THE AQHA HAS MANY YOUTH DIVISIONS. 9 AND UNDER, 10-13, 14-16, 17-19 THIS IS JUST AN OVERVIEW AND I CAN BE WRONG…
I AM JUST LOOKING OUT FOR ALL THE KIDS.
LETS TRY TO STAY FOCUSED ON OUR CLUB AND NOT SOMONE ELSES
IT IS GREAT TO TAKE IDEAS BUT JUST
BECAUSE THEY USE THOSE RULES,DOESN’T MEAN THEY ARE GOING TO RIGHT FOR OUR CLUB. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS IS NOT TO UPSET ANYONE. WE ARE A GREAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE ADN EVERYONE THAT HAS SHOWN WITH USE SAYS THE VERY SAME THING.
EVEN IF SECRETLY WE DO WANT TO BEAT THE OTHER PERSON
:):):):)
……………….
I CANT WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE AND SHOW OFF MY 4 YO
Comment by DEB RYAN April 3, 2008 @ 4:12 pmPRETTY PAINT… OH YOU WILL LIKE….. MAYBE HALTER, SHOWMANSHIP….. OH NO SOMEONE NEEDS TO SHOW ME WHAT TO DO. I HAVE ONLY DONE SHOWMANSHIP 1X MY ENTIRE LIFE THAT THAT MEANS I CAN DO NOVICE??? THIS IS FOR REAL..
The results of the classes are exclusively the judge’s decision. The show committees would have no authority to override the judge’s decision.
Comment by The Miles City Show Committee April 3, 2008 @ 4:13 amTo Vicky and anyone else…yes I understand your frustration over patterns and most of us have had similar experiences through the years ( I know Sara has but it was with Western Equitation) However, even though it can be extremly frustrating, the bottom line is that the judge has the final say in all of the classes. As show managers, we can only point out the rules as they are written and be available if they have any questions. As far as I know, EMHSC doesn’t have a written “standard” for point deductions or disqualifications in trail. The AQHA handbook does however give standards for deductions and I do think that as show managers we can have that information available for the judges to reference. But, alas, the FINAL word ends with the judge and no matter what is available for them to reference, we can’t MAKE them. Our only recourse is not hiring them again and that would have to be up to each individual show manager,
Comment by Brenda Fisher April 3, 2008 @ 3:25 amVicky,
It states very clearly in the EMHSC Rules that AQHA rules will be followed. Breed rules will apply in classes where conformation is considered due to differences in breed standards. I just looked in the AQHA rules for Trail and it states that if an obstacle is performed incorrectly or in the wrong order, it is a disqualification. This includes entering or exiting an obstacle from the wrong direction or side. Other disqualifications include a third cumulative refusal or balk to perform an obstacle, riding outside a boundary marker, and failure to ever perform correct gait between obstacles. There are a few others not pertaining to the pattern. I also looked up reining although I was fairly sure of that answer. Performing maneuvers in other than specified order is a disqualification also. My judges in Broadus asked me how to handle DQ’s and we elected to not give participants a score of 0 but to not let them place any higher than someone who completed the pattern correctly. Selected judges need to be made aware of what rules are to be used when judging and they should be aware of current rules. Of course there is one other thing that comes into play. The judge has to be paying attention and knowledgable enough to know the pattern has been broken……
Julie Korkow
Comment by Julie Korkow April 3, 2008 @ 2:55 amI have a question for all show managers. I noticed in the EMHSC shows for 2007 that having patterns didn’t seem to make a difference because someone could break the patterm and still place above someone that did the pattern correctly. I am talking mainly about the trail pattern. At one show only 2 people performed the pattern correctly and one of these did not even place out of 7 or 8 horses. If this keeps happening then there is really no reason to have a pattern in a class. Patterns need to be followed and if a pettern is broken then the exhibitor should be disqualified or at the very least not place above someone who performed the pattern correctly. I would like some feedback from the show managers.
Comment by Vicky Crofutt March 31, 2008 @ 3:31 amThe website looks great! I always look forward to show season and attending the EMHS circuit. However, this year I was little disappointed to see that all but one show was scheduled for June.
Comment by Cara Voss March 13, 2008 @ 10:55 pmWouldn’t it be nice to have the shows spread farther apart over the summer. That way we could enjoy the shows instead of being a rush just to get the season over?
Thanks for listing the 2008 show schedule! I’m terribly disappointed that we can’t attend the Broadus Show–Sterling has Regional High School Rodeo (only opportunity to qualify for state). This is such a great show! I’m pleased to see the trail at Broadus is extended to 5:00 pm–Sterling couldn’t make it to trail last year since he didn’t have a class break!
The Baker show might be a problem, too–AQHA show in Rapid City…but we’ll see! It looks like Glendive, Wibaux, and Miles City are going to work for us!
Comment by Deb Brown March 8, 2008 @ 4:07 pmThanks to my talented sister, Sharlet Teigen, the Northern Plains Performance Horses website is up and running. It will about 48 hours before it can be googled. Until then, you can reach the site at the following URL address:

Comment by Deb Brown February 16, 2008 @ 1:52 amI was just wondering when the show managers are having their meeting to decide show dates? Both sides of my family are planning family reunions this summer so I was hoping to know the dates so that I could maybe influence reuion dates not to be on the same weekends. Thanks, Val
Comment by Val Dekker February 5, 2008 @ 10:57 pmA big thank you to Julie Korkow for doing such a great job with the website. It was super to have all the show and year-end awards posted! Your hard work is very appreciated.
I don’t know about anyone else, but tax preparation is getting old! Every year I vow to keep up with data entry–and every year I’m in a big crunch in January! (Sounds like a New Year’s resolution is in order).
The wind here is terrible but not a lot of snow (so far). I understand Broadus had some rather blizzardy weather. I hope everyone is faring well.
Comment by Deb Brown January 16, 2008 @ 4:23 amWell, we got Layton a horse! Now we need to haul her (TMC Dandy, a 7 year-old gray QH mare) from piller to post this summer so we are shopping for trailers! 3 horse mid-tack with LQ look good but we are thinking of getting a 2 horse bumper pull with dressing and tack room to start. Give us your input on what you have, what you have seen, and what to stay away from! Does anyone in Eastern Montana have a Brenderup or know someone who does? They are supposed to be easy to pull and easy on the gas gauge. Wadda ya know? Thanks, Amber Hrubes
Comment by Amber, Allen, and Layton Hrubes January 11, 2008 @ 9:32 pmMERRY CHRISTMAS! I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday with family & friends.
It’s been awhile since I’ve been on the EMHSC site, so I’ll fill you in on the Camp Crook happenings. Sterling has abandoned basketball and is now wrestling–for the 1st time since 2nd grade! He is wrestling varsity as a freshman at 98#. He’s getting pretty good, too!
Larry is hoping for snow since the Montana Mountain Lion season is open for hounds! He has two lions mounted–one in our living room & the other at the #3 Saloon in Buffalo. These are pretty neat. As the only female in the house, I’ve lost my living room to various critters that Larry & Sterling have shot!
On January 1st, Sterling & I are going to our first NBHA barrel race. I have a card but think the speed events will be left to Sterling at this time!
We have added a two new members to our barn–a 2006 chestnut stallion named “Smooth Talking Cat” aka “Talker”. He is a son of “Smooth As A Cat” (NCHA LTE $500,00+) by the great mare “Remedy For Sweets” (a daughter of Grays Starlight with NCHA LTE $204,000+). Smooth As A Cat is the highest earning son of High Brow Cat. There are three 3-year-olds by Smooth As A Cat–2 made the NCHA Futurity semi-finals in Ft. Worth with 1 going on to finish 13th in the finals and earning $72,000+ (“Star Above” owned by the Manion Ranch). I’m pretty excited about this colt. “Talker” is in training with Justin Lawrence in Alzada, MT.
I also purchased a 2005 sorrel daughter of Reminic at the NRCHA sale in Reno, NV. She is in cow horse training with Justin Lawrence. I’m really happy with the progress she has made so far.
As the year is wrapping up, I’m so thankful for the wonderful friends in our EMHSC “family.” We look forward to attending as many shows as possible in 2008!
Comment by Deb Brown December 20, 2007 @ 4:41 pmPat Mitchell will be giving winter & spring clinics. Clinics will be held at the ranch located northeast of Shepherd. Stalls are available.Reserve your spot & get directions.Call us @ 406-373-1952 or e-mail us at pmphmontana@cs.com
Comment by Pat Mitchell December 4, 2007 @ 5:01 pmI want to thank everyone who gave me tips and encouraged me through the year. It was all your help and encouragment that made me good enough to win the youth and novice buckles. I hope to make it to a few shows next year, with sports camps and working times going to be short. I also want to thank Hiedi for all her help, I couldn’t have done this with out you there. Well anyways I’ll see you down the road next year and hope all is good for everyone.

I would like to thank all of you who attended the 2007 EMHSC Awards Banquet. I hope you all enjoyed the food and the great prizes. To those who could not attend we missed you. Hopefully you will be able to come next year. The weather was so beautiful and it was a special day. To Brenda Fisher and the Twitchell family we appreciate the nice thank you cards. Some child left a small appaloosa horse sitting on one of the tables – I don’t know if it was a trade for the horse on the table or if it was forgotten, but whatever I have it. If anyone knows who it belongs to I will get it back its owner.
Comment by Marge Griebel November 14, 2007 @ 6:13 amIt won’t be long until we will be meeting to plan next season’s shows. If anyone has any suggestions, please let one of us show managers know. We are always open to suggestions. I am already looking forward to next year and I hope all of you are too. Until then Happy Holidays (can’t believe it is nearly Thanksgiving).
Happy Trails! Marge Griebel
This is for our can-do-it-all webmaster, Julie. She and her helpers did a fantastic job bringing in Pat Mitchell. We all know these sort of things don’t happen by themselves. Thanks.
Comment by Sharlet Teigen November 5, 2007 @ 5:13 pmI would like to thank all the show managers for a great awards banquet. Thanks I think we all enjoyed it and I know I am looking foward to 2008. I am going to put in my requests for time off next week so I will have them in first…. Thnaks for all that you guys do to make the shows run smoothly… Deb Ryan
Comment by Deb Ryan November 4, 2007 @ 3:02 amSorry to miss the banquet. Thanks for posting the photos and HUGE THANKS to all the extra effort to do the great prizes! The novice speed versatility award was the first buckle I have won since 1982.

Comment by Deb Brown October 10, 2007 @ 10:42 pmI just returned from the NRCHA Futurity in Reno and learned of Brenda and Sara Fisher’s loss. We extend our deepest sympathy and will keep you in our prayers.

Comment by Deb Brown October 10, 2007 @ 10:34 pmI would like to thank everyone in the circuit for their support during this time. I am still having a hard time with Mike’s death….hardly believing it…but I thank everyone for their prayers. We are trying to hold it together and with the help of my family and good friends it hopefully will get easier. Brenda
Comment by Brenda Fisher October 8, 2007 @ 3:52 amWe are planning on having a reining clinic this fall. Miles City was going to sponsor it but Pat Mitchell (who is doing the clinic) is not going to be available during the available times they could get their Agri Sports Barn. We can have it in Broadus and it will either be the first or second weekend in November. Right now, I am leaning toward the first weekend. We will probably take 12 people for the clinic but anyone can come and watch. Let me know if you are interested in coming.
Comment by Julie Korkow September 26, 2007 @ 3:00 pmI would like for all of us to keep Brenda and Sara in our hearts and prayers due to the recent loss of both Brendas husband and Sara’s Father, Mike Fisher. HE WILL BE MISSED…. Words cannot express how sorry I am for you both..
Comment by Deb Ryan September 25, 2007 @ 2:55 amAre Broadus or Miles City going to have reining clinics this fall? If so, please let me know.
I will probably have four (4) riders for each clinic.
Comment by Deb Brown September 18, 2007 @ 3:08 amMarge, you and your family are in our prayers. We are saddened by the tragedies your family has endured.
Deb, Larry & Sterling
Comment by Deb Brown September 18, 2007 @ 1:53 amPlease excuse my spelling – and I didn’t proof read very well either. Instead of air-lighted it should be air-lifted. Sorry about that – my head isn’t too clear right now.

Comment by Marge Griebel September 14, 2007 @ 11:42 pmIt looks like the year end awards banquet will be Oct. 28th at the Plevna Bar and Cafe in Plevna. I hope this date will work for everyone. If there are problems with the date please let me know. I don’t have a menu or price yet for the meal. Things have been pretty hectic and stressful here this week. My step-grandson was killed in Iraq. It was something we were all so worried about but prayed that it wouldn’t happen. That was Monday and on Tuesday we got word that my nieces infant daughter was not going to make it. She was born premature the first week in July and at first things looked so good. She was gaining weight etc. Then about 3 weeks or so ago she was air-lighted to the Denver Children’s hospital. She passed away night before last. Please keep all of our families in your prayers.
I hope to get letters out to everyone within the next week with the information about the banquet. I sure hope the date works okay.
Marge Griebel
Comment by Marge Griebel September 14, 2007 @ 11:38 pmI had a wonderful time at the SDRCHA in Rapid City. My Shining Spark mare did well, winning both the open two rein classes. Nicole Wheeler did awesome–I think she won around $1800 over the weekend!
The 5-State Breeder’s Barrel Futurity was held Sept 8-9 in Rapid City. Pam Rolph was riding “French Cash Yawl,” our 2002 Frenchmans Guy gelding that Vicky Crofutt used for the Glendive “red hat ladies” class. He Tied for 3rd in the 2nd Go with a time of 17.164 & had an average time of 17.686. The top 12 average times on 2 runs were called back for the Short Go–Pam & Cash missed the call back by 0.010 seconds on two runs, finishing 14th in the average. Cash won $1,125 over the weekend, putting his barrel racing earnings at $3,048 for his first year.
Cash is running both barrels and poles at the “Fizz Bomb” in Gillette, WY, this weekend. I’m hoping to see him run but may not make it–Larry is going to the Weaver Sale in Great Falls & someone needs to be at the ranch to turn on the range well!
Comment by Deb Brown September 12, 2007 @ 2:14 pmHas the date been set for the Year End Awards Banquet? Please let members know ASAP since our schedules are getting tight!
Comment by Deb Brown September 12, 2007 @ 2:02 pmHey I LOVE those pictures from the shows lets have some more on there!!!!!!!! I was laughing at the funny ones of coarse. and I loved the captioned one of Deb and Brenda, (Boy you girls go out for blood)….. Hope to see ya all soon.
Comment by Deb Ryan September 12, 2007 @ 3:03 amDeb Ryan
It’s hard to believe the summer is nearly gone. Sterling started school on Monday, 08/20/07–his freshman year of high school! He just turned 14…I’m not sure where the years have gone. It seems only yesterday that he was 6 years old and riding in walk-trot classes!
It’s been a awhile since I’ve visited with anyone so I’ll take this time to do a little update on what we’re doing.
We probably won’t be able to make as many EMHSC shows next year due to South Dakota High School Rodeo schedule, cutting, reining, and working cowhorse events. (Boy, do I dread the amount of driving ahead of us!) We do, however, plan to attend as many shows as possible. We have been in the circuit for 7 years and would really hate to miss seeing all of our friends!
Sterling, Larry, and I really enjoyed the CCQHA-sponsored Ranch Horse Competition in Miles City earlier this month. What a great group of people! Sterling was in the Youth Limited Division riding Sir Fred Von Freckle (the Freckles Playboy stallion we recently purchased from Justin & Kelcie Lawrence). He had a blast and is totally hooked on the cow events! It was a lot of fun to watch our two horses that Justin is showing. Dual Feature, a 3 year old mare, is heading for the Reno Snaffle Bit Futurity in Sept. Spark Plug Cat, the Shining Spark mare I purchased at the Weaver Sale two years ago, is in two-rein cow horse classes. She was just going to be a broodmare but is such a neat horse we decided to put her in the show pen.
I’m taking my first real vacation and spending all Sept. 22-Oct. 7 at Reno, NV, I’m excited about going and really looking forward to watching all those great horses compete!
We will also be going to several barrel racing futurities this fall to watch our two Frenchman Guy horses compete. One of the horses is “Cash” who won the EMHSC yearling versatility award 4 years ago. He’s won two barrel futurities this year (7 Downs & Cruel Girl Classic) and will be running PRCA barrels this with Pam Rolph when the futurities are over. Pam says the EMHSC shows helped him tremendously since “nothing bothers him.” The other horse is “Socks,” the little mare Larry used in the Men’s Cowboy Pleasure classes this year.
We are really enjoying the cooler days. We plan to wean our two March/April foals this weekend–so much for peace and quiet!
I hope all of you are doing well, staying healthy, and have a wonderful time.

Comment by Deb Brown August 22, 2007 @ 2:55 pmI know where a 3 horse trailer with dressing room in good condition is that you could get for less than $5000. Email me at lakel111@hotmail.com.
Comment by Laura Lake August 16, 2007 @ 8:27 pmDoes anybody know where we can buy a 2-3 horse trailer with a tack room and dressing room that is in good conditon and under $5,000. If we find one, we can do the curcuit next year.
Comment by Hrubes August 14, 2007 @ 6:28 pmThe date has not been set for the Awards Banquet. It will be in Plevna this year at the Plevna Bar & Cafe in their dining room. Sorry that I can’t give a date, but as soon as we set it everyone will be notified. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Comment by Marge Griebel August 12, 2007 @ 1:08 amMarge Griebel

Comment by Deb Brown July 23, 2007 @ 10:24 pmHello everyone. We really missed being able to make it to the shows this summer and even though it is a year away we are hard at work making plans and getting things set up here to be able to make it next year. One of those things is selling our blue trailer as we have purchased a smaller one. If you know anyone who may be interested, it is a 1995 Trailmann 4 horse. It has a large carpeted dressing room and a mid tack with a 4 foot short wall. We had an electric hook up installed a couple of years ago and added lights and plug-ins to the dressing and tack rooms. We are asking $7500.00 for it and can be reached here at 967-3193.

Val, I just checked the weather & it looks like Sat. is upper 90s but Sun. is upper 80s. I sure hope my info is correct–102 is just too hot!
Comment by Deb Brown July 4, 2007 @ 7:41 pmHave you guys seen what the temperature is going to be this weekend in Miles City. It is going to be insane! 102 both days, boy are we going to have some kind of fun.
Comment by Valerie Dekker July 3, 2007 @ 4:27 pmThanks for the nice show in Glendive!!! It was alot of fun (and stressful) for my fist show. Thank you who all helped me get through it. Thanks for sponsoring the Costume Class, Val!! The trophy is awsome!!! I may go to morre shows this year, it’ll depend on Joey. I am looking for a new horse though. Like a western pleasure or speed events kind of one. ill hope tp see u all at another show!!
Comment by Layton Hrubes June 27, 2007 @ 7:04 pmHi everyone. I would just like to thank the wibaux crew for a job well done… It is hard to please everyone and you made a bad thing ( the arena ground underwater) work well. thanks for everyones hard work. We do appreciate it..
Comment by Deb Ryan June 8, 2007 @ 1:32 amDeb
Hey, it looks like my mom will get to probably ride then. Ha Ha.
See yall at Broadus
Comment by Sterling Brown June 7, 2007 @ 6:25 pmSorry Emily and I missed the Wibaux show. To much lawn to mow, but thankful for the rain. I’m glad the Red Hat Riders class is being created for us old gals and proceeds going to breast cancer-something my family has delt with. THANKS for getting the PAC approval! Well hope this goes through this time. I’m not very computer savy but maybe I hit all the right keys!
Comment by Jackie Sprankle June 7, 2007 @ 7:18 amThis comment is for Deb Brown and anyone else…I’m glad that you approve of our added “Red Hat Ridrr” class! We are limiting it to twelve participants over 50, however, if the class doesn’t get filled, we will add younger gals until it is filled…so…you forty-something gals will probably get to ride too!
Comment by Brenda Fisher May 31, 2007 @ 11:36 pmI’m finding that terms have changed a lot over the years. When I was younger we called the electric timer an “electric eye.”
I was telling Sterling about Deb Ryan’s new electric eye. There was a little silence…then he starting asking what I thought were odd questions. Evidently, he thought Deb R. had just purchased an artificial eye (for vision) that ran off electricity!
It’s no wonder communication is often difficult–we don’t always speak the same language as our children!
Comment by Deb Brown May 31, 2007 @ 6:48 pmYes mom i think u r being just a little WeIrD. But everyone don’t be alarmed ill make sure shes normal by this weekend.
Sincerely,
Me
Comment by Sterling Brown May 31, 2007 @ 6:46 pmYes, i told my mom to quit being WeIrD! Just hope she isn’t like that for the shows. Srry mom just a joke!
Comment by Sterling Brown May 31, 2007 @ 6:42 pmI love the addition of the 50+ ladies class in Glendive–I’m just 4 years shy of participating! I am pleased the proceeds will go to such a worthy cause!
We are very excited about the electric eye for speed events! I am bringing 6 stop watches so there can be backup timing…just in case!
Our NW corner of SD is beginning to look like swamp land! We are SO THANKFUL FOR THE MOISTURE! The gravel road was very slippery and deep with mude when I drove to work–I told Sterling to plan on riding the horses to the pavement while the pickup/trailer are pulled through with the tractor. We are not missing the 1st show! Sterling told me to quit being “weird” before we see everyone again!
Comment by Deb Brown May 31, 2007 @ 6:31 pmA “GREAT BIG THANKS” goes out to the Baxters for getting the EMHSC accepted into the PAC program.
Comment by Jackie Srankle May 30, 2007 @ 12:15 pmMarge, thanks for posting the good news on the blog. Jackie Sprankle
Hi all Just a note for all you speed event people. I have got an electric timer !!!!! Yeah!!! To use for all the speed events. I have just received it and due to the weather have not had a chance to try it out, hopefully it will work and make life easier for all involved… Wibaux will be our first run with it… It looks pretty simple to opreate, even for me.. so lets keep our fingers crossed. can’t wait to see you all at the shows…
Comment by Deb Ryan May 29, 2007 @ 7:20 pmDeb
Thanks to all of you for putting in the work to get our shows APHA PAC approved. Yeah… I have a pain t horse i am starting to show thios year and am excited about having it approved for PAC points..Thanks again.
Comment by Deb Ryan May 29, 2007 @ 7:15 pmI just wanted to give everyone a “heads up” on an added class for the Glendive show on June 24. Since several of us have passed the half-century mark and there is not a specific class for us gals, we (Jackie Sprankle and myself) have decided to sponsor a special ladies only class. We are calling it the “Red Hat Riders” and it will be a walk-trot only. It is designed to get any gal over 50 into the saddle….for the first time or for the first time in a while. It is also a good warm up for the gals with a new horse or young horse. Participating in this class will not disqualify anyone from doing a loping class. We will limit it to 12 participants on a first come basis. We are hoping to get a dozen brave participants as this should be a fun class with very little pressure. It is scheduled to be class #36A…right after the costume class…unless someone has a big objection to that time frame. We are going to charge the regualar fee for the class with the proceeds going to breast cancer. Jackie and I have ordered special ribbons for this class and EVERYONE is a winner!! Hope to see you all in Glendive!!
Comment by Brenda Fisher May 29, 2007 @ 4:27 amI have received word from the American Paint Horse Association that EMHSC has been approved for PAC credits. All of our shows may advertise that we have been approved for APHA PAC credits. This should be good news for paint horse owners.

In response to the two-handed riding in western equitation, I thought that came out of the AQHA handbook, but I looked this morning and I cannot find it. It is a rule we have had since the Circuit began, but I’m not sure the reasoning because a quite a few people use junior horses in the equitation classes. I will look into it further. Again…this was sent to me by Marge Griebel to be posted.
Comment by Julie Korkow April 20, 2007 @ 9:55 pmYes, the points will count for year end points for the horse as long as your husband is a member. If you have an individual membership and not a family membership then the points would not count. However, your husband needs to have a different number than you have for that same horse. Each number is for a separate horse-rider/handler combination. Even though the points will count toward the year-end for that horse the number needs to be different. In the halter classes the points count toward the horse as long as everyone who exhibits that same horse belongs to the EMHSC. For instance, if someone regularly shows the horse (in yearlings, stallions, mares, geldings, or pony) and then at some show that person can’t (maybe that person has two horses to show in that class, etc.) – that person can have someone else who belongs to the Circuit show the horse and the points will count for the horse. If that person has someone who is not a circuit member show the horse then the points do not count for the horse. This is only for the halter classes. All of the other classes are rider/handler-horse combination and if two people use the same horse it is two sets of points. In riding or showmanship classes if more than one person use the same horse they need to be listed on the eligibility sheet – the person’s name can be added mid-season if needed.
This was sent to me by Marge Griebel to be posted…..
Comment by Julie Korkow April 20, 2007 @ 9:54 pmI have a question concerning the numbers and the horse pairing. If I show one horse and then my husband is able to show the same horse in a different show (only in the halter classes, such as mares, yearlings, geldings, etc.) do the points from both shows count toward year-end for the same horse?
Comment by Vicky Crofutt April 19, 2007 @ 8:45 pmI also would like to know for sure on Debs question. Cathy got a young horse and we were under the assumption that she could ride her two handed because she just turned 5. Deb, I don’t think any of us would have wanted to trade places with you. I understand there was a huge amount of snow down there. Hope all went well.
Comment by Valerie Dekker April 9, 2007 @ 8:53 pmVal
Oops…forgot to ask about the Western Equitation rule stating horses must be ridden 1-handed (See page 5 of the rules). I assume this means ALL horses with no exception for junior horses or green horses. Last year, Jr. Horses were ridden 2-handed with same rule. Please clarify. Thanks!
Comment by Deb Brown April 3, 2007 @ 7:59 pmWith all the items I’ve posted in the blog today everyone probably thinks I never go to work! There is some truth to that; but day I’m snowed in at the ranch. My main responsibilites for the day appear to be warming chilled calves! My porch will never be the same!
Comment by Deb Brown April 3, 2007 @ 7:52 pmOn page 3 of the Newsletter #15, it states 3 patterns will be used for reining & equitation. All the equitation patterns are available; however, I have only found 2 reining patterns on both the mailing info & the website. Is there a 3rd pattern? If so, please post. THANKS!!!
Comment by Deb Brown April 3, 2007 @ 7:48 pmA big thanks to Julie Korkow for the wonderful website!!!! Sterling & I are really looking forward to the shows again this year!
Comment by Deb Brown April 3, 2007 @ 6:53 pmDeb Brown, Camp Crook, SD
I am sending in my familys membership. We are also sending in to the secretary of the EMHSC an application for the PAC (Paint Alternative Prgram) so if the circuit hasnt been involved they will be hopefull this year. There is no charge to the organization they just have to send in this form to get the shows approved. This program gives PAC points for the show points earned by Paint horses…more can be learned about this at the American Paint Horse Associations website: http://www.apha.com
Comment by Lisa Baxter March 30, 2007 @ 7:15 pmCould you please lighten the background up? It is really hard to read with the black.
